Don't Call It A Comeback (2024)

Don't call it a comeback! I’ve been here for years… but mostly just selling and downsizing my collection until recently. Since 2020 I’ve moved almost annually, leading me to stop buying figures and sell off most the collection. Fast forward to 2024 and I’m finally putting down roots and dropping cash for figures again. This is the damage over April and May.

Buying all of these was a stark reminder of just how expensive this hobby can be. Happy to take advantage of the yen being so weak though.

Some quick context: I’ve had a spare room (the Anxiety Room) full of stuff to sell and little to no walking space. I’m happy to say it’s now the Hobby Room where I’ve got my figures, build my Legos and work on cosplay stuff. Having a usable space again, I decided to pull out the figures I kept and get some display cases to house them (RIP Detolf). I started browsing through figures I missed over the years and lost my mind :p

Anywho, time for the actual loot (and lots of pictures). Without a doubt what got me buying figures again was seeing the Falslander series. neco really hit it out of the park with this whole futuristic warrior motif. I got weak in the knees and had to have them. Oh, and Hatsuaki too :D

There’s just something about gals with swords that I can’t pass on. It also helps that the details on each of these figures are so amazing. Awesome sculpts and paint jobs all around.

OC’s can be hit or miss for me, but Hatsuaki hits every time. Even my non-collector friends love the look of her. The colors pop, the details impress, and everything just works.

Of the Falslander figures, Ronin and Samurai were the first to arrive. For Samurai, I love the asymmetric design and how much her profile differs depending on which side you're looking at.

I have mixed feelings on

but I for sure needed Hemet. I have to admit I’m envious of those heels. The contrast of the white boots, the black top, gold accents, and the pink hair? *Chef’s kiss*

As for the Ronin figma, she was actually the first I saw of Falslander and I just remember thinking to myself… “Damn. That looks sick.” I couldn’t wait to try different poses and combinations with her. And now she’s reinitiated my collecting.

Next up, the two I’ve affectionately dubbed the voluptuous vixens.

How they could squeeze so much curve into these figures is beyond me, but I. Am. Here for it. Once more the knees went weak, and the card was thrown down.

Those legs. THOSE FREAKIN LEGS. And then the attention to her stomach and flesh fang? Insert Vince McMahon gif. Unfortunately, when Mx-Chan came in she had two very noticeable marks; one on her elbow and one on her leg of all places.

Thankfully AmiAmi was super chill about replacing her for me and the whole process took no more than three weeks. I have to say I found their customer service amazing. It’s been rare for things to go wrong with an order I place, but I still lean towards AmiAmi knowing they’ll resolve it if there is an issue.

Ah. Taihou. Curves for days. I was never fond of ¼ scales because of how much space they take up, but seeing this figure was enough to change my ways. That swimsuit is fighting for its life, and I honestly can’t think of a better way to leave this world. I will say her base is WAY too easy to scratch though. I thought I was as careful as I could be and still slightly scuffed the edge somehow. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Quick side bar, I usually buy figures of characters I know and like. If something catches my eye but I’m unfamiliar with the character, I’ll do a little research. Because of Taihou I did check out Azur Lane, but couldn’t get into it. After watching some unboxing videos for other figures I did end up playing Arknights and Nikke though. I thought I escaped gacha hell after Pokemon Masters and Fire Emblem Heroes, but all roads lead back to gacha. My productivity at home nosedived, but I am loving Arknights and currently contemplating

from Nikke. In the meantime, I could use some friends in game, sooo if you play Arknights add me please :3 (eBro#7635). Also, Nikke’s ost slaps harder than it has any right to.

Next up is the one and only Miku, but with Solwa 😉

Just laying eyes on the box of this figure, it was a winner for me. I honestly couldn’t bring myself to store her box with the rest because it just looks so colorful and premium. I think I’m in favor of no plastic windows if it means we can get artwork and layouts like this (same for Mx-Chan’s box). But back to the figure, her fit is so damn cool, the flow of the hair is neat and different, and I love the base. As far as Mikus go, this one really stands out for me.

Time for another set and the theme should be pretty apparent here.

Just… yesh. These aren’t the most elaborate figures in the world, but they don’t have to be with that mix of brown skin and white hair. My knees faltered again, particularly for Nansei. One thing it took me far too long to realize though is that Sansei has antennae.

Last, but not least, the figure that has claimed the spot of most costly in my collection.

She was a pain to put together, but looking at her assembled the pose, details, and flow of the figure are just amazing. Each part of the figure draws your eyes from the previous detail. Just wish the case I have was big enough to place her on a rotating stand.

And that’s the haul! The next major project was figuring out how to arrange them in two IKEA Blalidens. If you're wondering what's in all the boxes, they're the rest of the figures to sell.

I died a little inside after I put these together - the very next day someone was selling two Detolfs for $60 each on Facebook Marketplace :’) I’d like to add some backgrounds and bottoms to each shelf at some point, but for now here’s the layout.
