Playing Powerball in Florida
To play Powerball in Florida, or anywhere else, you have to select five main numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number between 1 and 26. You can get a Quick Pick if you would prefer a random selection.
Select how many consecutive draws you want to enter using the Advance Play section - up to a maximum of 39. Each playslip contains five panels (marked A-E), so you can also submit multiple sets of numbers at a time.
Powerball costs $2 per play, but you can also add Double Play and Power Play to your ticket for an additional $1. Another option is the $6 Jackpot Combo, which gives you a Quick Pick for the next available draw for Powerball, Mega Millions and Florida Lotto.
Ticket sales stop at 10:00pm, ahead of the draw time at 10:59pm. You can play Powerball in any participating state if you are away from Florida, but the cut-off time may be different. You should also remember that prizes can only be claimed in the same state where you buy your ticket.
Prizes and Odds
There are nine ways to win Powerball prizes. To get the jackpot, you need to match all five main numbers and the Powerball. The grand prize starts at $20 million and keeps rolling until it is won. It has been known to go past $1 billion a few times, and in January 2016 a couple from Melbourne Beach in Florida - David Kaltschmidt and Maureen Smith - won a third of a then-record prize worth $1.6 billion.
If you miss out on the jackpot, you can still receive a payout for matching fewer numbers. In fact, you are guaranteed a prize even if you just match the Powerball.
The following table shows how much you can win in each prize level, along with the odds.
Numbers Matched | Odds of Winning | Prize |
---|---|---|
5 + Powerball | 1 in 292,201,338 | Jackpot |

Power Play
If you add Power Play to your ticket, any non-jackpot prize you win will be increased by up to 10 times its base value. The multiplier that is applied to prizes is determined by a separate Power Play draw.
The Power Play draw takes place alongside the main draw. It involves a pool of 42 or 43 balls - 24 are marked 2X, 13 balls are labelled 3X, 3 are marked 4X and 2 are 5X. When the jackpot is worth $150 million or less, an extra ball marked 10X is added to the draw.
All non-jackpot prizes are increased by the value of the multiplier apart from the Match 5 category, which is always doubled from $1 million to $2 million.
The table below shows all the prizes you can win with Power Play.
Prize Level | 2X Power Play | 3X Power Play | 4X Power Play | 5X Power Play | 10X Power Play |

Double Play
Double Play gives your numbers another chance to win. A second draw takes place immediately after the main draw, with a new set of numbers selected at random.
You win prizes in all the same ways, but the value of payouts is different. The jackpot is a fixed $10 million in every draw, but many of the other prize levels actually offer a larger payout. See the prize table below.
